Members of the Airdrie RCMP had a chance to show their skills in a charity hockey game against a local high school.

"On February 9...RCMP members here at the local detachment played a really fun hockey game with some of the students from George McDougall High School," said Airdrie Cst. Jennifer Weedmark

A total of $930 was raised for George McDougall which will go to their annual Ride of the Mustangs fundraiser.

This was the first time the RCMP have played a charity hockey game against George Mac, and Cst. Weedmark said they are open to doing it again.

"It was a really great event. I know that a lot of the RCMP member officers said they had a really good time and they would love to do it again."

Cst. Weedmark highlighted events like this are an important way for local police to make connections in the community.

"We always enjoy going out. We like to remind people that we're also a friendly face. We're here to help people and we're here to participate in the community, not always on a negative approach."
