An Alberta Wide Rally that took place on Saturday, November 5, saw many Airdronians and Rocky View County residents attend.

The rally, which was a peaceful protest against the carbon tax being implemented by NDP government, had many speeches given and signatures signed.

Amongst those in attendance included Wildrose MLA Angela Pitt, Banff-Airdrie MP Blake Richards, and Airdrie's own councillor Allan Hunter.

"We stand up for our energy industry, to stand up for all those thousands of workers that are out of work right now, for those businesses who are struggling. That's what we're here to do," said Richards.

According to Richards, something like the carbon tax will hurt all Canadians, as it isn't just being implemented in Alberta.

"It is all of Canada's economy that is suffering and it will suffer as a result of this carbon tax on our energy industry."

Pitt also made an appearance at the podium, letting participants know how the tax will affect Albertans directly.

"This will affect us when we're driving our kids to hockey practice, when we're trying to pay off our mortgage... or when we're simply trying to put food on the table," she said.

Alberta Wide Rally organizer for Airdrie, Leah Hahn, said while she didn't have exact numbers, she estimated that over 100 people attended.
