The City of Airdrie will not have any cannabis retail stores open for business today.

As of today, the City has recived 12 applications for retail cannabis locations.

According to Steven Utz, City Growth Manager, The City is currently working on the applications.

"There are seven that are permitted or discretionary uses that have gone through the appeal period, there is one still in the appeal period, two that have been appealed and two applications in process."

Utz also says each application must reach the federal and municipal set back requirements.

"There is a requirement on part of the applicants that make sure they meet all AGLC regulations and Municipal conditions of approval."

Each application goes through the same process regardless of being in permitted or discretionary areas, the difference is the city can put on additional conditions with discretionary use locations and those locations may be appealed.
