Beginning in August there'll be a new man in charge at a Crossfield School.

Rocky View Schools (RVS) Superintendent Greg Luterbach has announced the appointment of Derek Keenan as Principal at W.G. Murdoch School, effective August 2019.

In making the appointment, Luterbach called Keenan, "a highly respected administrator in our jurisdiction."  Luterbach said, "Derek is known for his collaborative approach to leadership and commitment to developing efficacy across RVS."

W.G. Murdoch is receiving an educator who has served the needs in RVS for 14 years.  Keenan taught at the elementary and high school levels for 10 years before he was appointed assistant Principal of Beiseker Community School and RVS' colony schools, where he cultivated strong and lasting relationships with parents and students and facilitated professional growth opportunities for staff to create inclusive learning environments.

Keenan holds a Master of Education in Professional Learning from the U of Lethbridge, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Arts from the U of Calgary.

Keenan will oversee a staff of about 29, including 21 teachers and a student population of nearly 350.

RVS Board Chair Todd Brand also wished Keenan well in his new role saying, "I extend my congratulations to Derek on his assignment as Principal of W.G. Murdoch.  I am confident he will serve the needs of students and the school community well."
