Airdrie continues to mourn the lose of a 12 year old boy who passed away during a carbon monoxide incident, and the tragedy loomed over last night's (February 5) City Council meeting.

Mayor Peter Brown opened the meeting by expressing condolences on behalf of Council.

"First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and friends of this young man lost in this terrible tragedy. None of us can imagine the weight of their lose, and our hearts, our thoughts and prayers go out to all of them."

Mayor Brown thanked the first responders involved for their swift action in dealing with the incident on Sunday, and urged residents to make sure they have a working carbon monoxide detector in their homes.

Later in the meeting, Councillor Al Jones specifically thanked Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society for their help during the evacuation of the Willowbrook apartment building.

"I was absolutely amazed how quickly those folks come together in a volunteer capacity. Some are scared, some are angry, some don't know how to feel, they're displaced."

Mayor Brown echoed Jones' sentiments, and closed the meeting by reiterating his condolences and urge to the public to make sure they protect themselves from carbon monoxide.
