October 7th to 13th, 2018 has been designated as Fire Prevention Week by the National Fire Protection Association and it means a busy week for members of the Airdrie Fire Department (AFD).

Deputy Fire Chief Linda Masson explains that Fire Prevention Week is something that isn't just for Airdrie.  "Fire Prevention Week is a national event, in fact, it's all across North America and fire departments get involved."

As in other years, the week in 2018 has a theme, which, according to Masson is, "Look, Listen, Learn.  Be aware, fire can happen anywhere."

AFD is planning three events for the week and another that starts this week but lasts throughout October.

On Wednesday, the Junior Fire Chief will be introduced at the Chinook Winds Fire Station.

On Friday at 10:00 am at the Greens at Woodside, a presentation for Seniors will take place with AFD members offering hands-on training and a safety presentation.

Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00, AFD will host ATCO Fire Safety Day at the Chinook Winds Station.  The public event includes interactive and educational safety stations.   Sparky the fire dog will be in attendance along with Juno nominated children's entertainer Mary Lambert.

AFD will also launch their Home Safety Program on Tuesday.  Watch for more details on Tuesday on Discover Airdrie.
