It was 111 years ago today, September 1, 1905, that Alberta became it's own province.

Once a district of the Northwest Territories, the Province of Alberta was established after Ottawa rejected the Territories' request to create one large province.

Airdrie Councillor Ron Chapman has been a proud Alberta resident since 1978, when he came to Airdrie for a two week visit.

"When I got here, I fell in love with the community of Airdrie. It was a small town at the time of 2500 people and I have been here ever since."

Angela Pitt, Airdrie MLA, said that it is an honour to be a member of the legislative assembly in Alberta's 111th year.

"I'm a very proud Albertan, as we all are, and we live in a wonderful beautiful province, and I am really happy and honoured to be the MLA for the constituency of Airdrie."

Alberta has gone through many changes and multiple recessions but both Chapman and Pitt see the great potential the province has to bounce back this year.
