Deputy Fire Chief Garth Rabel with the Airdrie Fire Department has updates on this morning's fire on Main Street between Centre Ave. and 1 Ave. NW.

Five fire engines and 12 firefighters were called to the scene at 3:55 a.m. after a central alarm was set off.

Upon arrival, firefighters gained access into the building and discovered conditions of light smoke on the second floor. Further investigation determined the smoke was coming from a hydraulic oil reservoir in the elevator room which had overheated and was off-gassing and spewing smoke.

The last unit cleared out around 8 a.m. The businesses in the building are unable to renter the building until all smoke has cleared. The elevator remains out of service.

"There were no injuries to report, thankfully," says Rabel.
