The Airdrie RCMP are hoping to share some tips on ways to reduce crime in 2019.

Through a media release provided by the Airdrie RCMP to Discover Airdrie, they offer the following tips to cut down the potential for crime to you, your vehicle and property.

1. Remember to report any crimes or serious activities you experience and/or witness.

2. Be careful where you walk when alone. Avoid lonely or unlit streets and shortcuts through parks and/or vacant lots.

3. Exercise caution when conversing with people you have just met. Avoid giving your name, address and/or place of employment. It is great if you want to help a person in need but it is not wise to exchange food or money for services such as housecleaning or yard work.

4. Entrances and garages at your residence should be well lit and locked.

5. Your house address should be on your home, clearly visible and can be seen from the street.

6. Do not let strangers into your house. Insist on proper identification from service personnel. If someone asks to use your phone, offer to make the call for them instead.

7. Never leave personal identification or valuables in your vehicle. Lock all valuables in the trunk. Don't tempt thieves by leaving packages, cameras, or purses in plain view or on the seat.

8. Never leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running, even for a few seconds. Turn off the ignition and take the keys with you.

9. Always lock all of your vehicle's doors and windows after entering and exiting it.
