Another big topic took place during the City Council meeting on May 1st.

City planners and local developers were seeking approval from Council to move forward with creating a Community Area Structure Plan (CASP) for two undeveloped sections of the City.

In the end, Council unanimously approved the option to move forward and Team Lead for Airdrie planning, Stephen Utz said it's a good first step.

"Council gave both of those land owner groups permission to prepare a Community Area Structure Plan, so really what it was is the right to prepare a plan and to submit that to the City for review."

The future development projects are lands to the north of Williamstown, known as the Davy Creek Lands and the West Side Lands near 24th Street.

With the CASP now ready to be developed, Utz said there's a few steps left to go.

"There will be public question along that way in the development of that plan and ultimately there has to be a public hearing and adoption of a bylaw."

So far there's no date to when the new CASP will be brought to Council along with the Public Feedback sessions.
