With Chestermere now being Western Canada's first Bee City, and only the second city in Canada designated for bees, there's a question as to whether or not Airdrie could do the same.

Although the possibility of having bee keeping within urban Airdrie was explored in 2014, there has only been two inquiries from residents who are interested.

According to Stephen Utz, acting team leader of Planning Services with the City of Airdrie, it would need to be brought before council, first.

"If people are interested in that, they should come to the public question at a regularly scheduled council meeting."

Another interesting topic that has come up is that of urban chickens.

"We may consider that in the future, for sure, but at this point in time, due to other existing priorities from council, and staff and resources, we're not pursuing it at this moment," said Utz.

Keeping chickens in urban Airdrie would be another topic that needs to be brought to Council.

Currently, Crossfield town council are in preliminary stages of having chickens as a pilot project, although town council has only asked for research to be done at this point.
