Chestermere Mayor Patricia Matthews has announced she won't be seeking re-election this October.

Matthews made the announcement yesterday saying, "I'm very proud of the work I've done as mayor since 2007 when we were a community of 3500 people to the vibrant city we have become.  I'm excited to pursue the opportunites that are in front of me now and more in the future."

Matthews has served on Chestermere council for 13 years, seven of those as mayor.  Her term will end with the municipal elections in October.
