On Thursday, July 27, the Provincial Government announced it was expanding fire bans to other parts of Southern Alberta.

The new bans will cover the Forest Protected Area south of the Red Deer River region to the northern boundary of Waterton Lakes National Park.

According to the Airdrie Fire Department, the city will remain under a Fire Advisory as they say residents have been following the rules, causing no real issues.

The department says the risk is still there and they're constantly monitoring conditions in the city. Under the advisory, fire permits are suspended for the time being.

Neighbouring communities including Rocky View County and the Town of Cochrane still remain under fire bans.
