Airdrie is playing a central role in the production of a new beauty product.

The GlamPod is a new holder for the popular Beauty Blender makeup sponge, created and designed by Ola Cislik in Edmonton. Cislik found that travelling with and storing the sponge was difficult, as it is easily dirtied and can grow mold if not stored properly. The GlamPod allows air to circulate around the sponge to keep it clean.

After designing the product, Cislik wanted to manufacture the GlamPod in Alberta.

"We looked into some places over seas, but it didn't feel right for us. So we found our manufacturer in Airdrie, and they were so helpful and it was all very possible to happen there, so we thought this was just the perfect fit for us."

The GlamPod is manufactured by Alta Injection Molding, a polymer plastic manufacturer located in Airdrie. General Manager Brett Darichuk said GlamPod approached them to produce the cases, and the relationship was forged.

Darichuk said there are some benefits to manufacturing in Airdrie.

"There's a very encouraging business and manufacturing sector here. There's no business tax, there's no tax on electricity like in the city [of Calgary], so those aspects make it encouraging for manufacturing. There's also a developing central distribution hub that's happening all in this area here. From that, if you can make it closer to the hub of distribution, you're just a little better in the market place."
