Between the needs of Fort McMurray wildfire evacuees, and the state of the economy, it comes as no surprise that the Airdrie Food Bank is feeling the heat.

On June 25th, volunteers with the AFB will be out in full force, handing out lists of "critical items" at various retail locations in Airdrie.

"There's some items for sure that we are running really low on," said Quinn Donaldson, general manager for the Airdrie Food Bank.

Some of the critical items that will be on the lists will be canned fish and meat, condensed soup, spaghetti, and peanut butter and jam.

From 2015-2016, the month of May saw a 124.5% increase in people served, and from January 1st to May 31st, 278 new clients were served.

"It's that 'I never thought I'd have to do this and I didn't wanna have to get this support,' but that's why we're there, we're there to help you feed your family and to help you make ends meet." said Donaldson.

Volunteers will be at Safeway, No Frills, and all Shoppers Drug Mart locations, from 9am-3pm Saturday, June 25th.
