Fourth candidate enters Airdrie mayoral race
A fourth candidate appeared on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, on the City of Airdrie’s Public Register of Candidates for the municipal election. Usman Mahmood filed nomination papers, joining newcomer Dave Douglass and incumbent councillors Tina Petrow and Heather Spearman ahead of Monday’s deadline. No other details were immediately available regarding Mahmood, though the City register states more information will be posted soon. According to the City of Airdrie’s councillor profiles, Petrow was first elected in 2017 and chairs the Community and Corporate Services Committee. Spearman was elected in 2021 and serves on the Airdrie Housing Limited board. For council, incumbents Ron Chapman, Al Jones, and Darrell Belyk have filed nomination papers. Councillor Candice Kolson has not filed. Petrow and Spearman, both incumbents, are seeking the mayor’s chair rather than the council. All other names on the register include: Simisola Obasan Tomisin (Tomi) Adenipekun Chad Stewart Chris Glass Rekha Mehay Jay Raymundo Maulik Shah Anthony Morvillo Craig Dansereau Kristen Shima Shaganpreet Singh Sooch Karen Whittenbury Tammy Yantz Christopher Bakke Inderjeet Kaur Kathleen McCuaig Individuals who have filed a Notice of Intent to Run but not yet submitted nomination papers are: Joshua Elo, Matthew Kangal, Dustin Murray, Nicole Brown, Riccardo Trentalance, Johnny Nagra, Dylan Harty and Darrin Budzak. Withdrawn notices have been filed by David Dempsey, Geoffry Lee, Nikaela Lutzer, Justin Cooper, Mo Fahad Shaukat and Terry Papp. Nomination Day is Sept. 22, with papers accepted since Jan. 1 and closing at noon, according to a formal notice signed by returning officer Charlotte Satink.
