City of Airdrie releases first-week advance voting turnout as Cochrane and Carstairs share early data
The City of Airdrie says 1,900 ballots were cast during the first week of advance voting, held Oct. 6–11. In a post on Tuesday, the city urged residents to take part in the municipal election, noting that advance voting continues this week from Oct. 14–17. Election Day is set for Monday, Oct. 20. Advance voting remains open at the following Airdrie locations and times: Oct. 14–17: 6:30 a.m.–2 p.m. (early morning option) — City Hall, 400 Main Street SE Oct. 14 and 16: 8 a.m.–8 p.m. — Town and Country Centre, 275 Jensen Drive NE On Election Day, polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters must cast their ballot at their designated station based on subdivision: Zone 1: Genesis Place (Gym), 800 East Lake Blvd NE Zone 2: Town and Country Centre, 275 Jensen Dr NE Zone 3: Rocky View School Division building, 2651 Chinook Winds Dr SW During Airdrie’s 2021 municipal election, voter turnout was 22.2 per cent, with 12,074 voters out of 54,373 eligible residents casting ballots. Airdrie’s population increased from 74,100 in the 2021 federal census to more than 90,000 in the city’s 2025 municipal census. In Cochrane, the Town of Cochrane reported what it called a “record advance poll voter turnout” in a social-media post Tuesday. According to the town’s statement, 870 residents cast their ballots early on Saturday, which it described as “the highest single-day advance poll turnout in Cochrane’s history.” The town said the previous single-day record was 666 voters during the 2021 municipal election. The post added that 6,842 residents voted in 2021, representing 33 per cent of eligible voters, and encouraged the community to “raise that number together” this year. The town listed remaining advance-poll opportunities as follows: Oct. 14 and 16 (12 p.m.–8 p.m. at Cochrane RancheHouse) and Oct. 18 (10 a.m.–4 p.m. at the SLS Centre). Election Day is Oct. 20 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. According to the town’s mid-year growth report presented to council Sept. 2, Cochrane’s population is projected to reach 40,158 by the end of 2025. The Town of Carstairs stated on its website that 271 people registered to vote in the community’s advance poll for the 2025 municipal election. The town’s 2024 municipal census reported a population of 5,313, reflecting ongoing growth north of Airdrie.
