Woman and 18-month-old killed, two children injured in Highway 9 collision
Airdrie Rural RCMP said the driver of a pickup truck, a 36-year-old female resident of Hanna, Alta., and an 18-month-old female passenger were declared deceased at the scene after a two-vehicle collision near Kathryn on Wednesday night. Mounties said two other children were injured and were transported to a Calgary hospital. Related Stories: Update: Collision closes stretch of Highway 9 east of Balzac Police said that on Sept. 17, 2025, at 10 p.m., Airdrie Rural RCMP responded to a report of a collision on Highway 566 and Highway 9. "A Dodge Ram pickup heading northbound struck a semi truck heading southbound on Highway 9. As a result of the collision, the truck caught on fire," police stated in a news release on Thursday. "The semi driver was not injured." RCMP said the cause of the collision is still under investigation and sent condolences to the family and friends of all those involved.
