Samra appointed Reeve as Rocky View County council sworn in
Rocky View County’s newly elected council was sworn in on Tuesday morning following the October 20 municipal election. Assistant Chief Justice Eric Tolppanen administered the oath of office during the inaugural and organizational meeting at County Hall. Councillor Sunny Samra (Division 6) was appointed Reeve, while Councillor Samanntha Wright (Division 4) was named Deputy Reeve. Both appointments are for one year. “It is an honour to serve as Reeve on behalf of Rocky View County residents,” Samra said in a statement. “As we begin this new term, we will continue to focus on service excellence, responsible growth and collaboration across our communities. Rocky View County’s strength lies in its people and communities, and we look forward to continuing to build a vibrant, sustainable future together.” More than 40 appointments to County boards and committees followed, with terms ranging from one to four years. Members-at-large may represent geographic areas, communities or partner agencies. Council also passed a motion rising directing administration to prepare a report in early 2026 exploring ways to improve how public members are appointed to boards and committees, with the goal of making the process “more modern, fair and effective.” Sign up to get the latest local news headlines delivered directly to your inbox every afternoon.
