Rocky View County reports voter turnout drop as area municipalities certify results
Rocky View County reported a 7.69-per-cent drop in voter turnout from 2021 as it released official 2025 election results Friday, alongside several neighbouring municipalities. “Overall, a total of 9,333 Rocky View County residents cast their ballots during this year’s election, representing a voter turnout of around 27.34 per cent from an estimated 34,132 eligible voters,” the County said. “This represents a 7.69 per cent decrease from the 2021 Municipal Election.” “Participating in democracy at the local level is one of the most important ways that we can help shape the future of our communities,” said returning officer Tyler Andreasen. “I would like to thank every Rocky View County resident who took time to vote in our municipal election.” Andreasen also thanked 21 candidates and 170 election workers “who worked tirelessly to ensure that our voting stations ran smoothly, and our results were accurate and timely.” The County said its new council will be sworn this morning at County Hall, followed by selection of a reeve and deputy reeve. Incumbents Kevin Hanson, Don Kochan, Samanntha Wright, Greg Boehlke and Sunny Samra were re-elected. Alison Whiting captured Division 3, and Ken Ball won Division 7. Airdrie Heather Spearman has been confirmed as Airdrie’s next mayor after the City released its certified results the same day. The City reported 12,077 ballots cast from 51,206 registered voters for a turnout of 23.59 per cent. In 2021, 12,074 of 54,373 eligible voters cast ballots for a 22.2-per-cent turnout. Incumbents Ron Chapman and Candice Kolson received the highest vote totals among 23 council candidates. Also elected were Chris Glass, Kristen Shima, Simisola Obasan and Chad Stewart. In the Rocky View Schools Ward 3 trustee race, Melyssa Bowen, Fred Burley and Jeremy Klug were elected. “The results for Mayor, City Council and Rocky View Schools Trustee are now official,” the City said. Crossfield The Town confirmed its 2025 municipal election results Friday, congratulating its new mayor and council. “The official results for the 2025 Municipal Election have now been confirmed. We extend our sincere congratulations to the newly elected members of Council and thank all candidates for their dedication to serving our community,” the Town said. “Thank you to all residents who participated in the democratic process and to our election workers for their commitment and professionalism throughout the election.” Kim Harris was elected mayor. Council seats went to Craig Benson, Luke Brennan, Logan Cosh, Justin Gustafson, Michael Knight and Dawn Nielsen. Carstairs Dean Allan was elected mayor, receiving 959 votes to 380 for Erik Vester, according to official results certified Oct. 24 under the Local Authorities Election Act. Turnout totalled 1,345 voters from 3,552 eligible electors. Councillors elected were Sheldon Ball, Angie Fricke, Jerry Roberts, Darrah Selanders, Cameron Tolley and Shannon Wilcox. Ball, Fricke, Roberts and Wilcox were incumbents. Beiseker The Village released its certified election results Friday, confirming the outcome of its Oct. 20 vote. “The following are the official results of the Village of Beiseker municipal election held on October 20, 2025, with the advance vote held on October 15, 2025,” the Village said in its Oct. 24 notice. David Ledoyen received 158 votes, followed by David McKenzie 143, Neil Young 139, Austin Sheridan 129, Nikki King 99, Warren Wise 96, Jennifer Allan 88, Les Spurgeon 72 and Wayne Getty 22.
