Update: Armed robbery at Banff credit union under RCMP investigation
RCMP say they are investigating an armed robbery at the Bow Valley Credit Union in Banff. Police said officers were dispatched at 9:40 a.m. On Wednesday, a man threatened employees with a firearm and demanded money from the tills and vault. RCMP describe the suspect as wearing a black puffy jacket, blue jeans, white running shoes, a red Canadian Tire grocery bag and a blue surgical mask covering his face. Anyone with information, or dashcam or doorbell footage from Beaver Street and Caribou Street between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. On Wednesday, ask Banff RCMP at 403-763-6600. In a later update Wednesday evening, RCMP said investigators believe the suspect may also be involved in a Sept. 27 armed robbery at the Servus Credit Union in Airdrie and a Sept. 25 robbery in Red Deer. In the Airdrie case, police said a lone male suspect wearing a blue surgical mask entered the financial institution and demanded money while threatening to shoot the cashier. Surveillance has shown the suspect changed into a white shirt and white hat shortly after the robbery. RCMP said the incidents are believed to be related based on the manner, clothing and physical description. Residents in Airdrie are asked to review dashcam or home security footage from around the Servus Credit Union on Main Street South between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sept. 27, as well as from the Morningside community between 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. that day.
