Accused in Rocky View County worker’s killing set for 2026 jury trial
Two men accused in the fatal shooting of Rocky View County worker Colin John Hough will be tried together by jury in Calgary next spring. Court records show Arthur Wayne Penner, 36, of Edmonton, and Elijah Blake Strawberry, 29, of O’Chiese First Nation are each charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, and two counts of robbery with a restricted or prohibited firearm. Both men are due back in Calgary Court of King’s Bench for a pre-trial conference on Nov. 4, 2025. Jury selection is set for April 30, 2026, with a joint trial scheduled to run from May 4 to May 29, 2026. A statutory publication ban remains in place on evidence from the preliminary inquiry. Penner was arrested in Edmonton days after the Aug. 9, 2024, shooting. Strawberry was taken into custody a month later at a residence on O’Chiese First Nation following a province-wide manhunt. Hough, 45, was killed and a 39-year-old FortisAlberta employee was injured during what police described as an attempted robbery along Township Road 250 near Conrich.
