Airdrie is expected to accumulate up to ten centimeters of snow overnight.

Due to the heavy snowfall residents of Airdrie are reminded to shovel their walkways to reduce the risk of injury to pedestrians. Many residents are not aware of a by-law that restricts owners from shoveling the snow on their sidewalks and driveways onto the roads.

Maury Karch Operations Coordinator of Municipal Enforcement for the City of Airdrie says it's to prevent excessive snow on the roads.

"Most people think it's the city's responsibility to clean up the roads, so if everyone removes their snow from driveways and sidewalks onto the roadways it then creates a problem for actual traffic by creating hazards and slowing traffic down."

If walks are not cleared within 24 hours of a fresh snowfall, property owners may be liable for a $100 ticket.

Bylaw enforcement rarely hands out tickets for not maintaining walkways unless it is a last resort.
