The City-Wide Food Drive is back in action and the Airdrie food bank is hoping Airdronians are in an extra giving mood, after missing out on donations from one of their biggest drives last year.

Starting Monday (September 20th) the Airdrie food bank will go house to house (in some communities) and leave big white bags on door handles, hoping residents will fill them up with donations. Christine Taylor, events and marketing manager for the Airdrie food bank said they hope to collect a lot of their most distributed staples, so they can stock up their shelves,

“Canned fruits and vegetables, kid snacks definitely, peanut butter, jam, syrup, pancake mix. Those are the kinds of things that we like to put in our hampers.”

She goes on to say that some of the bigger items can be donated and they will portion them to suit the needs of the clients. Things like flour and rice can be divided up and repackaged into smaller portions to include in hampers. With the food drive being cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the food bank was lucky that they made it through thanks to the community showing their support,

“COVID has made it much more difficult for people and we need all the help we can get. We are just thankful our community is amazing and they are always out to help us and they do an amazing job.”
