Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) confirmed that a funnel cloud did form southwest of Morley just before 5 p.m. today. Morley is located approximately 80-some kilometres southwest of Airdrie.

According to meteorologists with ECCC, the storm in the area, which began south of Morley, also produced hail which, according to some eyewitnesses was the size of nickles and quarters. The funnel cloud, however, did not touch the ground. When funnel clouds hit the ground, they are then classified as tornados.

Airdrie is currently under a heat warning that is predicted to last several days.
