Even with rising temperatures, the walking tunnel under the train tracks from Nose Creek Park to Luxstone still has approximately five inches of ice build up.

The City of Airdrie has closed the tunnel due to safety concerns and will continue to monitor the pathway during the spring thaw.

Bob Neale, Team Lead of the Engineering department at the City of Airdrie said there are other seasonal limitations that can cause the walkway to close.

"There are seasonal constraints to it that include snow and water limitations during high flow periods when there's water flowing through it."

Neale said that once the snow melts out of the tunnel the path will become fully operational again.
