The Town of Crossfield, like most other communities in southern Alberta, is in the midst of a prolonged dry spell which has prompted the Crossfield Fire Department to issue a fire advisory.

According to Crossfield Fire Chief Ben Niven, the fire level in the town is high which has led to a Level 3 fire advisory.  All burning and fireworks permits are suspended and all burning is banned, with the following exceptions:

  • Indoor household fireplaces
  • Camp stoves (properly attended)
  • Barbecues (charcoal briquettes, propane, or natural gas)
  • Wood pellet grills
  • Propane/natural gas fire pit
  • Oil well flaring (registration required - call (403) 264-1022)

Approved backyard fire pits, both propane and natural gas, are still permitted but must be used safely and reasonably as noted in the Crossfield fire Bylaw.
