You could say that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Airdrie (BBBS) had a “ball” yesterday (March 11) at Shamrock Lanes.

You could also say they didn’t “strike” it rich but they did very well with their annual Bowl For Kid's Sake fundraiser.

And, if you really wanted to, you might also say it was good that so many teams had some “spare” time and came out for the cause.

But enough with the bad bowling puns, let’s just say that the Bowl For Kid's Sake, the organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year in Airdrie was a great success. David Case, Communications and Marketing Specialist with BBBS was “bowled” over (sorry, couldn’t resist).

“It’s gone fantastically! The Airdrie community has really come together. We have more teams registered than in previous years and we’re raising money for kids."

Case said 16 teams of four had registered for yesterday’s two bowling sessions. Although all the money hadn’t been counted yet, over $10,000 had been raised for the BBBS mentorship program in Airdrie, a program that Case said is one of the most important they do, and one that they could use more people for.

“We are always recruiting mentors. We have around 26 kids who are on the wait list right now. If you’ve got some time, some patience and the willingness to make a difference and be a big part of a young person’s life, you could definitely be a mentor.”

Case was excited with the turnout yesterday, and the overall success of the event and said that fundraising is extremely important to BBBS.

“It’s critical, it’s very important. This is the biggest fundraiser that we run here in Airdrie, so all of the money that will be raised at Bowl For Kid's Sake goes directly to our programs in Airdrie. Certainly, we’ve got some great funding partnerships in Airdrie but this event is definitely one of the major funders for our programs out here.”

BBBS will hold another Bowl For Kid's Sake next Sunday in Cochrane.
