Spruce Meadows is actually classified as a farm and it was an original homestead from the area.

"The venue has now grown obviously, it not only is a farm because it breeds and trains horses and has pasture horses, but we are a venue of the sport of show jumping," explains President of Spruce Meadows, Linda Southern-Heathcot.

"When you have 1000 horses on-sight you are a member of the farming community, in purchasing the hay and the grain," she adds.

Southern-Heathcot says the basic family values of Spruce Meadows are a big reason farmers are drawn to the venue.

"We have a venue that is open to the public and very accessible. Not only can they enjoy show jumping but there's also the Agrium display of growing the next generation for our younger people who maybe don't understand our rural roots and ties."
