Preliminary concept plan for new Hunt Coulee Village

The Rural Seniors Advisory Council will soon be able to give seniors in Rocky View who don't want to give up their rural lifestyle a new housing option, thanks to the Hunt Coulee Housing Project. The Communities Development Society (CDS), which oversees the Council, has been working hard to provide seniors used to the rural lifestyle with an alternative to moving to an urban setting.

The independant living project will be built on 45 acres in Bearspaw, donated by Ruth Hunt and her late husband, Wilf. Executive Director Lori Kovacs explains:

Ruth Hunt and her late husband, Wilf, have donated land to build a rural seniors' housing project.

The Hunts actually donated a full quarter section; the remaining land will be used to maintain a nature reserve. This very rural setting will help give seniors accustomed to that lifestyle a better sense of home.

The new housing project will be located between Airdrie and Cochrane.

Kovacs says they are working with seniors and other partners to work out how to provide the various services and amenities seniors require, away from a city. As part of the Hunt's donation, they also provided a handibus, meaning some of the transportation issues for the new housing project are already taken care of.

You're invited to an open house on Friday, June 8 from 1 to 6 pm at the Bearspaw Lion's Hall where more information on the project will be provided. You'll be able to look at schematics for the development, ask questions and if you're interested, add your name to the priority list of individuals interested in moving into the facility once it opens in 2014.
