On Tuesday, October 11, Rocky View Schools will be enabling SMS/text messaging service to parents, which will be used to disseminate timely information, such as school closures from both RVS and the schools their children attend.

According to RVS, the subscription text will be sent to the cell phone number(s) that are on file for parents and guardians.

"If your cell phone number(s) need to be updated, please contact your child’s school. If you would like to pre-subscribe, simply text YES to 978338. If you have subscribed you could begin receiving texts from your school or the division as early as Oct. 11."

For those wishing to opt-out of the service if they have already pre-subsrcibed, they will have to text STOP to 978338 at any point in time.

"If you do not want to get any SMS messages from the school or district, you do not need to take any action."

RVS also underlined that private student information will not be texted using this service and that the service will only be used for timely group messages to the school or district community.
