Airdrie RCMP is investigating a case of stolen credit cards, and are using it as a reminder to always lock your vehicles.

The incident in question happened on March 18th, where credit cards were taken from an unlocked vehicle on Morningside Court and then used to purchase over $400 of goods from several gas stations.

Cst. Dan Martin says that Police now have surveillance of the suspect in question.

“The suspect was videoed inside the Petro-Canada in Bayside and we’ve released photos in the hopes that somebody might recognize him.”

RCMP aren’t sure what time the cards were taken from the vehicle. Regardless, though, Martin says it doesn’t take long before you could be out hundreds of dollars.

“They were used all within a matter of a few hours after the theft. If a theft takes place at 2 o clock in the morning, several dollars can be racked up in a matter of a few hours before you even wake up and realize that your car has been rummaged through.”

As to whether or not the use of stolen credit cards is a growing concern for the City, Cst. Martin hasn’t seen it as a rampant movement, but it could be.

“As far as trends, it’s very difficult to say whether it’s increased or not. I think due to Social Media, people talking everyone is quite aware of it right now. We can’t stress it enough that people need to lock up their vehicles and remove their valuables.”

RCMP say that if you have any information regarding the March 18th incident, you are to contact them immediately.
