Provincial funding is in place and road crews are preparing to begin milling the off ramp for the northbound lanes on the QEII starting Monday, August 29.

The existing exit ramp at Yankee Valley Blvd. is currently one lane but when construction is complete, the exit will offer two exit lanes for additional traffic flow.

Alberta Transportation is the owner of the project with Volker Stevin acting as the contractor.

Bob Neale, Engineering Services Team Leader for the city, said that Airdrie is the project stakeholder.

"The City of Airdrie is essentially a stakeholder in the project but obviously we have 60,000 stakeholders that are interested in what happens with that project."

Once construction is underway, parts of the project will be completed during the day but the final paving and hanging of the new overhead sign will be completed at night between 8 pm and 6 am.

"For the safety of the workers and the project, the traffic volumes will decrease significantly [at night], so that was agreed to that, that was the right way to finish the project," said Neale.

The project is expected to have partial closures of the off ramp until October 15.
