On Monday, July 25, WestJet announced that they will be adding dozens of new flights for both domestic and international destinations.

This announcement came just one day ahead of the second quarter earnings that were announced on Tuesday, July 26, that showed that WestJet's earnings had dropped by $24.9 million over last years quarter two net earnings.

Despite the economic weakness that has been felt across Alberta, WestJet President and CEO Gregg Saretsky said in a press release that he is pleased with the positive momentum the company is experiencing.

"Our fundamentals remain strong, as highlighted by our recent US$400 million investment grade unsecured notes offering, and we are confident that the strategic initiatives we are pursuing position us for continued profitable growth."

Even with the drop in net earnings, WestJet has achieved 45 consecutive quarter's of profitability and flown a record 5.3 million guests.

Guest numbers will continue to climb with the addition of the new flights slated to begin this winter.
