On Wednesday (February 2) Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown presented a cheque to Community Links.

Laurie Jacob-Toews, Community Engagement Services Manager at Community Links, was super excited about the presentation.

"We're doing the official cheque presentation from the Mayor's Golf Tournament that was hosted back on August 27, 2021. We were very excited that over $24,000 was raised at the event."

Although they don't know what the money will be used for just yet, they have a general idea.

"We did not designate the funds because sometimes different programs need different funding. Because we support all ages, it will go to support community residents of all ages in our community."

Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown feels like all the non-profits in Airdrie deserve more praise.

"Like many nonprofits, people are really unaware of what they do every day. This group changes lives every single day. They do amazing work, I've seen it firsthand."

Brown goes on to talk about why he likes to host the gold tournament event every year.

"It's about the benefactors. That's really why I'm hosting. It has nothing to do with the mayor and has everything to do with supporting non-profits with the financial resources that they so desperately need, especially through COVID."

Michelle Bates, the Executive Director with the Airdrie Health Foundation, was also at the presentation because they will be the group receiving the donations for this year's 2022 Mayor's Golf Tournament.

"Any money that we raised in the community and stuff goes back to enhance health care in Airdrie. I don't have a specific thing right now but I can guarantee that it comes directly back to Airdrie in the form of equipment, education, and supporting programs to enhance health care overall in Airdrie."

The total amount raised for Community Links was $24,015.45.
