Strong winds started to blow through Southern Alberta on Monday, August 22nd.

Falling trees downed power lines, with Albertans experiencing various property damages thanks to the storm.

"For this time of year to see these persistent North Westerly winds last for a day or two is a little unusual," said Greg Pearce, Forecaster, Environment Canada.

A strong low pressure system is responsible for the winds which gusted over 60 km/h.

"It's a fairly intense low for this time of year, and the pressure grading around it is quite strong," said Pearce.

The system is expected to head towards Saskatchewan and Southern Manitoba next.

Pearce added that Southern Albertans can look forward to more seasonal weather in the coming days.
