A previous severe thunderstorm watch for Airdrie, that was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada has ended.

"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Thunderstorms will continue to develop this evening, and weaken tonight. Be prepared for severe weather," the watch stated on Sunday evening.

Residents were also urged to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

"Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!"

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.

The watch was also in effect for Crossfield.
