Residents of Cochrane are participating in their first ever Commuter Challenge this week. From June 3 to 9, participants will get around by walking, running or riding their bikes - rather than taking their cars.

Sponsored by Thrive on Wellness, the Commuter Challenge coincides with Canadian Environment Week. The Commuter Challenge has been happening in bigger centres like Calgary for years, but this is the first time it's come to Cochrane. It's a also a friendly competition between Canadian cities and work places.

You can register on the Commuter Challenge website. There you'll have access to an online tracking tool that lets you track your progress through the week. The impact you have on the environment by choosing alternative transportion will also be tracked. Things like emission reduction, calorie consumption, distance and fuel costs are all tracked.
