A flurry of rumours going around Airdrie suggests City Council is repealing the mask bylaw,

Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown would like to be clean and put an end to the rumours,

“Right now, I approved the agenda for the upcoming meeting. There was no motion to repeal anything on the agenda. So, I don't know where that rumour comes from.”

It looks like there is no truth to the story, but Brown did want to say if they did repeal the bylaw this week, masks would still have to be worn,

"Let's say for fictitious reasons, we repealed this bylaw. It makes no difference to the mandate because the mandate overarches our bylaw because it is a provincial mandate that people wear a mask."

Airdrie City Council recently made changes to the city's masking bylaw so when mask mandates do get lifted by the province, we will see the same restrictions lifted in Airdrie.

Brown also noted that if the Airdrie council decided they wanted to keep the mask bylaw in place once the provincial mandate is lifted, people would still have to wear masks in Airdrie.
