Airdrie RCMP's Integrated Traffic Unit was busy over the long weekend trying to prevent serious injury and fatal collisions on highways in the Airdrie, Beiseker and Didsbury areas. Sherriff Jason Graw says targetted long-weekend enforcement is one of the six main priorities of the provincial traffic units along with intersection safety, impaired driving, the interception of traveling criminals, occupant restraints, and speeding.

A variety of just under 200 charges were laid over the Thanksgiving weekend in our area. Graw says the highest speed recorded was Saturday when a 4-door Lexus traveling northbound on Hwy. 9 south of Irricana was clocked at 172 km/hr in a 100 kilometre zone.
