After an uncertain week in crude and gasoline prices, there is potential for a change in retail fuel prices.

In the past week, retail gasoline prices fell 4.1 cents per litre, giving the province an average gas price of 64.9 cents per litre - its lowest in 5 years.

Dan McTeague, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, said prices could go up in the next couple of days after an expected spike early last week.

"Last week's unexpected and confusing rise in crude and gasoline prices heralds a week of potentially wildly fluctuating prices."

"Apparently, rumors of OPEC members discussing the need for another meeting can drive oil up by 12 per cent and cause gas prices to rise 9 cents a litre in two days."

McTeague predicts that Calgary and Edmonton could see a 10 cent or higher spike in gas prices while places like Toronto and Ottawa could see a 2 cent a litre decline.
