The first inclusive playground in Airdrie has been delayed once again. This is the second time the playground has been delayed.

Kayla McPhail, one of the Airdrie residents who has spearheaded this project (along with Shelby Perrotta and the City of Airdrie), stated construction was initially supposed to take place last month but got delayed until this past weekend because of an equipment delay.

Unfortunately, another unforeseen circumstance now stands in the way of construction.

According to McPhail," During the site preparation for the build, the playground supplier and the City of Airdrie found a natural spring underneath the current site."

The city was hoping that after draining it, the hole would not fill back up, but, they went to the site the next day and the hole was filled with water, According to McPhail

"They (the city) got to get some engineers in there and see how to fix this problem."

The City of Airdrie has stated they are meeting with experts on the situation, they are unsure when construction will take place. With winter moving in, McPhail believes it won't happen until the spring of 2024.

While disappointed that it will take longer for the playground to be opened, McPhail mentioned she and her family are excited for it to be finally completed sometime soon.

$85,000 has been contributed by the city while McPhail and Perrotta fundraised $104,000 for the playground.
