A Fire Restriction has been issued for the City of Airdrie.

Effective April 27 at 4 p.m. and until further notice, all outstanding fire permits will be suspended and no new burn permits will be issued. This includes fireworks permits.

The Airdrie Fire Department advise that the following continue to be allowed:

  • Safe residential fire pits (non-combustible unit 39” in diameter or less)
  • Gas or propane stoves/barbecues and portable propane fire pits when used according to manufacturer’s specifications
  • Charcoal briquette and solid fuel barbecues when used according to manufacturer’s specifications
  • Chiminea’s (with screen covers that are located on a non-combustible surfaces)
  • Internal household fire places
  • Wood pellet smokers
  • Incinerators (for farm and acreage use)
  • Burning barrels (steel/metal drum no larger than 45 gallons, with screen covers that are located on a non-combustible surfaces)

However, torches and lanterns with open flames are NOT allowed in the City of Airdrie.

Elsewhere, the Town of Crossfield has issued a Fire Advisory, which prohibits any burning permits being issued in the industrial park. Crossfield residents are still allowed to have backyard fires in approved pits.

Both Rocky View County and the Town of Cochrane have issued fire bans.
