Cpl. Darrin Turnbull meets with reporters to update them on the fatal collision near Irricana early on the morning of June 21.

Beiseker RCMP were called out to the scene of a collision on Highway 9 near Irricana at 12:30 am on the morning of June 21. A passing motorist came upon a scene involving two vehicles, an SUV and a pickup truck and made a 911 call to the local detachment.

The lone occupant of the SUV, a 51 year-old woman from the Beiseker area, was dead on scene. The occupants of the pickup truck had fled the scene. Corporal Darrin Turnbull from the Airdrie RCMP detachment spoke to reporters this morning and says RCMP are using many resources to determine their wearabouts.

RCMP continue to search for those who fled the scene. Investigators are trying to determine who had permission to be driving the vehicle at the time of the collision, and have been trying to reach the registered owner. Turnbull would not say whether the registered owner was a resident of Calgary or from the local area.

As well as the search for the missing motorist or motorists, RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the accident. It is a criminal offense to flee from the scene of a collision when someone has been injured. Turnbull says RCMP would welcome help from the public.

According to Turnbull, the missing occupants of the blue, 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck are likely to be injured.
