A Calgary couple is now on the hook for 20,000 dollars in damage after their tenants allegedly trashed their rental property and skipped out.

The tenant had been living at the property for just over a year when the owners moved to Grande Prarie for work.

According to the landlords and owners, the tenant was talking about moving out in early 2019 so the couple stopped in to check on the residence but upon arrival found the property destroyed.

According to the owners, dogs had been chewing several holes in the walls, the fridge had mouldy items and was disgusting and there was extensive damage to the floors.

The owners believed their insurance would cover it but apparently are on the hook for the damages.

Have you ever rented out property and had terrible tenants? Have you ever been a tenant who was taken advantage of by a landlord?
