This month, Cochrane RCMP have received multiple complaints involving a computer scam. Residents have been receiving unsolicited telephone calls from people posing as Microsoft employees or representatives of other software companies. Offers are made to repair your computer, asking if it's working properly or running slowly. The scam includes installing software or requesting remote control of your computer by the internet.  Victims are then asked to pay via credit card for services - typically  from $35 to $550. Be advised, allowing a third party to have access to your computer exposes you to serious risks like theft of banking user names and passwords, credit account information, and identity theft. RCMP advise you to seek a reputable source for assistance if you're having computer problems. For more information, visit the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre's website: www.antifraudcentre.ca
