A concert coming to the Cochrane Legion on April 6 will not only provide an evening of great musical entertainment but also bring awareness to PTSD.

The intimate show will feature Luisa Marshall as Tina Turner, in the 'Hope Beyond Thunderdome- PTSD Awareness Tour'.

Marshall has been on numerous shows including the Ellen Degeneres Show and Oprah Winfrey. Her strong vocals and her resemblance to Tina Turner has packed many venues since the late 90's.

Marshall's passion for supporting PTSD came after she performed for the United Nations Peace Keeping Tour which included Bosnia and Sarajevo.

Teresa Gastel, Second Vice President of the Cochrane Legion says her performances for the military is what sparked the tour.

"She has done shows over in Israel and Egypt, and this is what really got her started because she saw how it worked with military life over there and what they were doing and seeing the pressures that can come from that and really wanted to do something that would directly benefit them."

Gastel explains what society needs to understand about those that suffer from the effects of PTSD.

"Because they can get lost in the shuffle, they think they can go back out the next day and do their jobs the same way they did it the day before, impossible. They are starting to understand that there are some effects that come from that. It affects your daily life, your mental health, your thinking; so I am so glad they are starting to look at this a little bit closer."

Symptoms of PTSD can often go undiagnosed or masked for a number of years, it may be long after an incident before the effects are truly seen or identified as symptoms of PTSD.

"There is always a state of denial, or some people feel embarrassed, they don't want to come forward. Why would you want to come forward and let people know that you have some mental health issues? You never know what it feels like to be in someone else's shoes especially after they have been in that experience."

Marshall's tour will take her from Vancouver to Newfoundland with hopes to raise as much money as possible for those suffering from PTSD.

Tickets are $25 and available now at the Cochrane Legion.
