The City of Airdrie has recently started their summer sidewalk maintenance program, blocking off sections of sidewalk all around the city.

"We identify sidewalks that need a bit of repair," said Jill Iverson, Communications Advisor with the City of Airdrie. "Maybe there are cracks and chips and things in them, and a contractor goes around and makes those repairs."

The annual project started in old town with 1st Avenue being blocked off for one block between Bower Street and Albert street for 24 hours.

Iverson said that to allow the cement to cure, detours and blockades will be set up during each repair.

The project is slated to be complete by the end of August but if weather becomes a factor it could run into September.
