The City of Airdrie is asking for your input as they rewrite the Land Use Bylaw.

What is the land use bylaw? It's the document that divides the City into zones and provides quidelines for new development. It also balances the interests of Property Owners with those of the public. And it's a tool to evaluate the sometimes negative impact of development.

The last significant update to the bylaw took place in 2005. At that time, the Non-Residential Land Use District standards were revised. The bylaw has undergone many more minor amendments since then to add new uses and create new districts.

In late 2010, City Council asked planning department staff to start looking at an overall revision of the bylaw. Starting in January 2011, staff began a review of the best practices of other municipalities and develop a list of the issues Airdrie most needs to include in a land use bylaw. Using this information, staff have completed a first draft of the new bylaw.

A survey looking for feedback from the public on this first draft is available on the City's website. You can also visit the Planning Counter at City Hall and use the interactive information kiosk. Both the survey and the kiosk will be available until the end of April. The City will also be at the Airdrie Home and Lifestyle Show, April 28 and 29, and will be able to provide you with information about the revisiions to the Land Use Bylaw.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact NewAirdrieZoning@Airdrie.ca, or call the Planning Department at 403-948-8800. A full calendar outlining the next steps in the process is available on the City's website.
