On Friday April 29, the Airdrie RCMP will be hosting a mock full-scale emergency exercise at City Hall.

RCMP will be joined by the Airdrie Fire Department, City of Airdrie Municipal Enforcement, and EMS.

The exercise is designed to prepare and test emergency responders on their readiness for a large scale emergency event.

Table-top exercises have been completed by all emergency agencies over the past year in preparation for Friday's drill.

Upon completion, crews will be able to determine what worked and what will need to be adjusted for future emergency response.

Mayor Peter Brown said the exercise will include city workers who'll participate as casualties and hostages.

"There is an active assailant within City Hall and there will be hostages and there will be a number of things."

In order to depict an actual event as closely as possible, over 200 participants will have a role.

"It is open to the public, there will be stands set up across at Tower Lane Mall."

Due to the large scale of the event, City Hall will be closed all day but online financial services will still be available at MyAirdrie.

The event start at 8 am, beginning with briefings and preparation, and conclude at approximately 6 pm.
